It’s Not What I Expected.

I can’t pretend.

Sometimes the harvest doesn't look quite how you thought it would. I've heard from so many of you about seasons and times in your lives where the plans you had in your beautiful soul just didn't pan out the way you expected. You plant something, show up, do the thing--and the return is quieter than you hoped. Here are a few things that return is not:

  1. It's not a sign that you are doing it wrong or that you are just terrible at xyz and should definitely quit.

  2. It's not an indicator that everyone else is doing it right and you were sick the day they covered this thing in school.

  3. It's not a sign this thing wasn't meant for you. Better luck next time, pal.

Nah. Harvests take time. Each gross, rotted plant that devolves into the soil makes it richer and ready for the next seed. To step away from the metaphor, it's a beautiful brave thing to try and put yourself out in the world and let it do what it's going to do before learning and improving for your next attempt.

We can't always see what is breaking open in our lives because of the swing-and-the-miss. We had a new moon a few days ago — a good moment for new beginnings. You haven't missed it. The cycle is still opening!

Wayfinding Practice for the Week:
Name one thing you did in the last week that you know won't pay off until later. Write it down and date it. Put it somewhere you'll find it in the next six months. Write a little note on your calendar to check out that "seed" at the end of September. And then let a little grin spread across your face. It's enough that you did that thing.
